Brown-Sugar Glazed Turnips

Ok ok, I know, turnips  YUCK! But, just wait before you pass over this recipe and give them a chance. I had never cooked with turnips until recent years for the same reason. I just associated turnips with yuck. I had either had them prepared poorly or just never had them. Anyway, I recommend giving this recipe a try. My kids all ate these and I kept finding myself going back to the fridge for another bite after dinner. Just take one bite and if you don’t like it, bring the leftovers to my house 

Brown-Sugar Glazed Turnips

Ingredients
  • 1½ pounds turnips, peeled and cut into ½ inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
Instructions
  1. Combine the turnips, butter, vinegar, sugar, 1 cup water, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon pepper in a large skillet.
  2. Cook, covered, over medium-high heat until the turnips are crisp-tender, 12 to 15 minutes. Uncover and continue to cook, tossing, until the turnips and liquid are golden brown, 4 to 6 minutes.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons water to the skillet and swirl to coat the turnips with the glaze.

Peel and dice turnips.
